A thousand times nay: Najla Fathi is no Suzanne Mubarak
Egyptian actress Najla Fathi has said that rumors of her intending to play the shady character of Egypt’s former First Lady Suzanne Mubarak in a film are unfounded.
Najla took the opportunity to stress the extent of her hatred towards the much reviled Suzanne and all that she represents, leaving no doubt in anyone's mind that she would not be first to snatch up such a controversial role. Does Ms Fathi forget that she's only asked to act?
Najla took pains to trace her animosity for Suzanne to pre-ouster times while President Hosni Mubarak was still in office. She makes it known that not all 'revolution' roles are off-limits. She would be more than happy if the chance came her way to play the role of a mother of one of the martyrs that lost their lives during the January 25 Revolution.
Picking her parts
According to the acting diva, she has to feel with the character she portrays and no sum of money will change her final word on the Mubarak role.
Najla recounts that years ago she was offered the leading role in the television drama “Al Malika Nazi” (Queen Nazi) for a healthy eight million dollar contract, but she turned it down flatly because it dealt with the life of Suzanne. At the time, Najla never explained her refusal til now when she is more than happy to reveal that it was down to her disgust for the woman. The role in “Al Malika Nazi” was later taken up by Egyptian actress Nadia Al Jundi.
