Lebanese singer Najwa Karam will be performing at the Jordanian annual summer festival Jarash today August, 7, 2003, after an absence from the festival that lasted 7 years. Najwa held a press conference in which she expressed her joy at returning to Jarash and her longing to sing to her Jordanian fans.
According to the Jordanian based daily, Al Rai, Najwa has prepared a special song dedicated solely to Jordan's King Abdullah II. The singer added that she looks forward to holding the performance, especially since this festival adds greatly to a singer's career, unlike other festivals that hold no significance.
The singer add that her participation this year will mark the second time she stands on the Roman stages, the last time being in the summer of 1996. Najwa stressed that the festival had brought her a lot of success, and is one of the main highlights of her career.
Karam previously held a live concert for the general public in celebration of her latest album "Sahirni" (Mesmerized) on June 24, 2003 in Beirut. The music production company Rotana is underwent all necessary preparations, since it is the company that produced Najwa's album. It was revealed that the big event was Najwa's way of saying thank you to all her devoted fans and is a gift from the heart. Another reason behind Najwa's gift is the fact that Najwa had sworn not to film anymore music videos and so the concert is her way of telling people not to forget her.
Najwa has decided that she will perform most of the songs from her new album. She added that after the concert, the event will turn into a press conference where she will be ready to answer any questions the press may have.
The album is the singers return to the traditional folkloric Lebanese style. The singer has worked with a number of prominent Lebanese poets and composers to complete the work. The album is to mark Najwa's last album with Rotana according to a contract she has with them, which will be terminated after the release. It is still unclear whether or not Najwa will renew her contract.
Najwa stressed that she will never again film any of her songs in the form of a music video. Najwa’s decision came after the failure of her last music video for the song “Iw’a Itkoun Za’ilit” (I Hope you are not Upset), which did not witness any interest among viewers or even herself.
Karam made her debut in the music world in 1985, with her participation in “Layali Lobnan” (Nights of Lebanon) performing Asmahan’s song “Layali Al Ons” (Nights of Pleasure). She was awarded the program’s Golden Medal for her outstanding performance at the event. – Albawaba.com
