Najwa Karam renews contract and heads off to the US
Lebanese singer Najwa Karam has just renewed her contract with Rotana for an extra five years right before heading off to the United States of America, where she is scheduled to hold a tour alongside Lebanese singer Wadi El Safi. Iraqi singer Kathem El Saher was to accompany Najwa on the tour, but he was unable to make it due to the fact that his band did not receive visas to enter the US.
According to the London based Elaph, it was added that Kathem has never held any performance without his band, which has been with him for many years. Najwa’s first stop in the US is in Detroit Michigan after which she will move on to a number of different states.
The banning of the latest music video for the single “Bukra” (Tomorrow) by Karam has lead the singer to fall into a state of utter depression and anger, especially since she had previously vowed to never film any of her songs in the form of video clips. The Lebanese Censorship Committee for the mere fact that it tackles sensitive political and social issues has banned the singer’s song. Director of the clip revealed that the banning of the song has nothing to do with the censorship in reality, and the order was surely given from a political source.
It has been argued that the song is a controversial one and tackles political issues that should not be talked about. Director Saeed Marouq stressed that he decision of banning the song is firm and will not be changed, which means it will cost enormous financial losses for him. Saeed added that the clip talks about a humanitarian subject focusing on the financial and economical situation and the problems that occur with the younger generation in Lebanon. Najwa had finished shooting the song under the direction of Saeed and produced by Lebanese TV channel LBC. Date of release was scheduled to be in February and LBC was going to dedicate an entire episode of one of its weekly programs for the new video.
Najwa had vowed never to film any of her songs in the form of a music video, but despite her previous decision, she completed the shooting of a new clip for the new song under the direction of Saeed Al Marouq. Karam was to release the new hit single composed by Wisam Almeer, which tackles the economical and social conditions in Lebanon. The singer did not reveal why she decided to release a single song before launching her album. –Albawaba.com
