Iraqi musician Nasir Shammah performed a musical concert entitled Palestine Today at the Holiday Inn Conference Hall in Manamah.
The event was held on the 12th anniversary of the Pan Arab Conference hosted by the Bahraini capital few days ago under the sponsorship of the National Democratic Action Society, according to the daily al Hayat.
The concert in which the Iraqi musician and lute player shined was held in solidarity with the Palestinian people who face the Israeli fierce aggression and violence in a very serious phase of their life.
Despite the weak publicity for the feature, it was attended by a large number of participants of the Pan Arab Conference in addition to a diversified audience from Bahrain and abroad.
Shammah played eight music pieces on the lute only without any other instrument. He started with the Peace City inspired from Fairouz song bearing the same title and which was composed by brothers Rahabani followed by Nasamat Athbah (Fresh Breezes) and Raksat al Muqawamah (Resistance Dance) which depicted a Palestinian child standing in front of an Israeli tank. This piece was originally dedicated to the martyr child Fares Audeh and which the Iraqi musician in turn dedicated it to the Palestinian stone throwing children.
The Iraqi musician also played some of his most famous pieces including Kissat Hobb Sharkiyyah (Eastern Love Story) and a musical piece from the Palestinian singing heritage used in the wedding parties and folk singing. The sixth piece was entitled Hilal (Creasent) for the creasent’s religious importance for Arabs as Shammah said.
The piece before the last was inspired from the Arab heritage and lasted for 15 minutes during which Shammah showed his brilliance in music playing. The feature was concluded with Shammah’s famous piece Hadatha Fi al A’miriyyah (Happened at al A’miriyyah) -- Albawaba.com
