We kid you not! "Queen of the Desert" Nicole Kidman to shoot movie scenes in Jordan
Australian A-list actress Nicole Kidman will be in Jordan in the coming weeks to shoot scenes for her new movie "Queen of the Desert".
According to a fan website dedicated to the film (queenofthedesertfilm.com), the movie will be shot in London, Jordan and Morocco between December 15 and January 15 next year.
The feature is based on the life and loves of Gertrude Bell, the English writer, archaeologist, and cartographer who mapped Iraq and Jordan in the early 1900s.
Academy-award winner Kidman will be joined by actors Robert Pattinson and Damian Lewis in the film, which will be directed by Werner Herzog.
In 2003, Kidman won an Academy Award, a Golden Globe, a BAFTA Award and a Berlin Silver Bear for her portrayal of Virginia Woolf in "The Hours".
She is the only Australian to win an Oscar for Best Actress, according to her official website (www.nicolekidmanofficial.com).
Several Hollywood movies have been shot partly or entirely in Jordan, such as "The Hurt Locker" by Director Kathryn Bigelow, which won six Oscars in 2010, including Best Motion Picture and Best Director.
In 1989, "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade" was filmed in Petra . The fantasy-adventure film was directed by Steven Spielberg and starred Harrison Ford and Sean Connery.
"Lawrence of Arabia" directed by David Lean was also filmed in the Kingdom in the Wadi Rum desert in 1961.
Other recent films shot in Jordan also include "Redacted" directed by Brian De Palma, some second unit scenes from "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen", "Fair Game" starring Sean Penn, and "Battle for Haditha" directed by Nick Broomfield.
