Egyptian actor Noor al Sherif is currently shooting episodes of a program about the history of the Egyptian cinema industry, how it began and what were the first films, which the Egyptian studios made.
The program of which 15 episodes have so far been shot surveyes the first film screened in Cairo and Alexandria during the period between 1896-1939 which witnessed screening the film al A’zeemah (Will) starring Fatma Rushdi in her last appearance on the screen.
“The first program episode will analyze and discuss the films al Wardah al Baidaa (White Rose) and Rasasah Fi al Qalb (Bullet in the Heart). The rest of the episodes will tackle the films of the Egyptian cinema godfather Mohammed Fayyoumi including Barsoum Yabhathu A’n Wazeefah (Barsoum is looking for a Job) and al Khateeb Raqam 13 (Fiancée No.13). These films have never been seen by anybody,” The program director Tareq Abu al U’la told the London based Arabic daily al Sharq al Awsat.
He added, “Noor al Shaerif will talk about stars of each film, their ways of acting and the style that distinguishes each of them from other actors. He will also tackle the most important films produced by the Egyptian cinema industry and whether these depicted the real situation and issues in Egypt or not as well as the way these films dealt with the problems of life in Egypt.” -- Albawaba.com
