7 minutes of heaven: Omani film 'Crossing' into Abu Dhabi Film Festival
The Omani short film titled Crossing has been nominated in the short narrative category of the Abu Dhabi Film Festival. Directed by Dr Maitham al Musawi, the seven-minute movie will be competing with short films from the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait and Bahrain.
“I am very happy to be part of this prestigious event. In 2011, my short film Raneen competed in the same category and it won the Special Jury Award. I hope that I will bring laurels this year as well.
“Crossing will also be screened this month in the US at the Middle East Studies Association (MESA) Film Festival. It will have 15 films from the Gulf. The festival will be held in New Orleans, Louisiana from October 10 to 13,” said Dr Musawi.
Crossing is the story of a young boy, Faisal, who tries to explore the ‘other’ world and wants to meet his mother.
Dr Musawi is a graduate from the Oman Medical College and is currently working in the Ministry of Health as an orthopaedic surgeon.
He started writing, directing and editing films in 2004 and got his first big break when his first film Reminiscence, won the fourth best film award in the second edition of Sheikh Majid Youth Media Awards in Dubai.
