One thousand productions to participate in Cairo Radio, TV Fest

The eighth Cairo Festival for Radio and TV will kick off Saturday with 22 Arab states participating in the events with more than 1000 productions which will compete for the festival’s golden, silver and bronze prizes in 35 contests. The festival will continue until July 15, 2002. 

The opening ceremony will be limited this year to staging a musical play entitled “Under the Siege” which includes a number of show performances in which more than 150 ballet dancers will participate. The show portrays a number of correspondents and photographers who demonstrate their humanitarian experiences in the Palestinian occupied lands. 

At the opening ceremony, a number of late artists will be honored including Yahya al Alami, Ahmed Mathhar, Mahmoud Rahmi, Tharwat Abatha and Moharram Fuad. Also a number of Egyptian and Arab artists will be honored including the Syrian actor Khaled Taja, Sudanese artist Ayda al Sheikh, Wadie’ al Safi, Adel Imam, Yusra, Hussein Fahmi, Laila Elwi, Noor al Sherif and Mohammed Subhi. 

The opening ceremony will be followed by a concert to be performed by the Egyptian renowned singer Amr Diab. 

The number of the Radio Service contests will amount to 14 while the number of TV contests will reach 21 on the top of which will be the contest of the Palestinian resistance for which the festival allocated the highest cash, golden, silver and bronze prizes. 

The festival head Hasan Hamed told the daily al Sharq al Awsat, “for the first time this year the festival will hold a special symposium about joint production in the Arab world.
