The Egyptian Opera House Commemorated the death of the Egyptian renowned musician and singer Mohammed Abdel Wahab through a concert performed by the National Troupe for Arabic Music and singer Safwan Bahlawan in presence of a large number of prominent figures.
The ceremony was attended by the Egyptian first lady Suzanne Mubarak, wife of the Syrian vice president Abdel Halim Khaddam, wife of the Lebanese premier Rafiq al Hariri and wives of some Arab ministers, according to the daily al Ahram.
The ceremony was opened with the musical piece Ilaiha (For Her), one of the masterpieces of the late musician played by the lute player Sayyed Mansour. It was followed by the poem Ya Garat al Wadi (Oh, Neighbor of the Valley) performed by the group: al Siba Wa al Gamal by Khaled Abdel Ghaffar and sketch Ya di al Nae’em performed by a group of singers. Then the troupe performed Wallah Arafna al Hobb, Marra Bee performed by May Hasan and al Ard al Tayyebah (Good Earth) performed by a group of singers.
The second part of the concert included a number of the late musician’s songs performed by the singer Safwan Bahlawan who sang Sit al Habayeb Ya Habibah on the Mother’s Day. The orchestra was led by Maestro Salim Sahab.
This is the second celebration organized by the Opera House after all tickets for the first concert held on the death anniversary of Abdel Wahab were sold.
