The organizers of the two most important festivals in Lebanon, Baalbek and Beiteddin, has announced the names of the musicians, singers and dancers from countries around the world, who will participate in the events to be held next July and August, according to the local press.
Italian opera singer Jose Carrera (tenor) will be the main guest of Beiteddin festival. He will perform a concert at the ancient Beiteddin Castle on July 24, accompanied, for the first time, by Lebanese opera singer Rima Tawil (soprano) along with Budapest Symphony Orchestra.
The British lyric play Cats by Andrew Lloyd Webber, will be staged on July 4. However, Cats has been performed in London for the past ten years, as well as in 150 cities around the world in 14 different languages.
On the other hand, Baalbek Festival will be held during the period between July 5 – August 9, the festival organizing committee announced Thursday in a press conference.
Among the participants are the king of the Irish dancing Michael Flatly along with his troupe, Brazilian singer and musician Gilberto Gil and the Romanian-French duet singers Angela Giorgio and Roberto Alania accompanied by the Lebanese National Symphony Orchestra.
The Lebanese Karakalla Dance Troupe will take part in Baalbek Festival by performing its recent show Alfa Laila wa Laila (Arabian Nights) which is distinguished with its atmosphere inspired from the ancient eastern heritage and from the tales of Arabian Nights. It narrates in a panoramic manner the popular customs, tradition and beliefs which prevailed at that time.
This performance is the biggest for the troupe with large numbers of Lebanese artists and actors participating in it. This is in addition to a number of Lebanese and international technologists exceeding 300. A number of Lebanese musicians composed and remade the play music which is basically based on music composed by international musicians including Maurice Rafil and Rimsky Corsakoff. It was remade to suit the eastern spirit of the play. The music of the violin and other eastern tools are blended with Symphony orchestra.
