Egyptian actor Riyad al Khouli is gearing up for playing the role of Antra Bin Shaddad in a play scripted by writer Yusri al Gundi, to be staged at the Modern Theater in Cairo.

However, the play Antra Bin Shaddad was performed at the same theater 27 years ago.

“I presented the idea of remaking the play to director Ashraf Farouq who welcomed the project, as the play achieved a great success when staged in the 70s,” Gundi told the London-based Arabic daily al Sharq al Awsat.

He added that Khouli also is very enthusiastic to play the role of Antra Bin Shaddad.

The writer pointed out that he will not make a lot of modifications in the text which is based on the Arab folkloric literature. “I will make simple changes in the text to be in harmony with the current age,” Gundi said.

The director has nominated a number of actresses to play the starring role along with Khouli, but he hasn’t chosen the final cast yet. The play is scheduled to be staged next theatrical season – Albawaba.com
