Rotana presses charges against Haifa Wahbi

Arab music satellite television channel ‘Rotana,’ under Rotana’s music production company, has filed charges against Lebanese singer Haifa Wahbi in Cairo for allowing the music channel ‘Mazzika’ to air he clip for her new song ‘Rajab.’
The song was produced by ‘Rotana’ before Haifa ended her contract with the company, and Rotana claims that airing it on a channel other than ‘Rotana’ without permission warrants prosecution.
Rotana sent a court order to the administration of Mazzika, demanding that they stop airing the song and pay Rotana five million Egyptian pounds in compensation.
A lawsuit was filed against Haifa for giving permission to Mazzika to air the song.
Haifa opted not to renew her contract with Rotana, and claims that she filmed the clip for a second time in a different style from the one produced by Rotana.
The singer said that Rotana filed the lawsuit against her in an attempt to pressure her to renew her contract.
Haifa denied circulating rumors that she intends on suing the Lebanese Broadcasting Company (LBC) for repeatedly airing a clip of her falling on stage during rehearsals for her performance for the weekly program Star Academy.
Rumors claim that Haifa is demanding US$2 million from LBC for humiliating her in front of viewers by airing the clip.
Haifa asserted that she would never consider taking the matter to court, especially since she is on excellent terms with LBC.
