Ruby ruined by attempting to act
Since the fifties, Egyptian singers tried to use their success in singing to have an acting career and the first one to start the trend was singing legend Abdul Halim Hafiz, who was the only one to succeed in both acting and singing.
Many others tried but most of them stopped after the first or second movie because they felt that failure will face them if they went any further. Among those who tried and stopped were Hani Shaker, Afaf Radi, Majida Roumi and Latifa.
The latest singer who tried to act was Ruby who was guided by her director Sherif Sabri wanting to use her in cinema and get more profits. Sherif produced a low class movie to cut the cost and wrote a flaw story, which gave Ruby the full two hours of the movie that was supposed to be a comedy. Sherif was very greedy and went too far in estimating the value of his star but the movie waked him up to realize that Ruby lacks the talent and that he lacks good planning.
Despite the various offers to act, Haifa, Nancy Ajram and Dianna Haddad refused to participate in movies and preferred to stick with what they are good at doing. These singers proved that they got the wits to keep their success and not to end their career by becoming greedy.
Ruby managed to bring some profits from her first acting experience in the movie “Sabi’ Warakat Kotcheena” (Seven Playing Cards), after it had been experiencing losses in its first weeks of screening. Showtime bought the exclusive rights to show Ruby's movie and the movie will be broadcasted on Showtime's Cinema Home channel. Sabri announced that the singer’s film will be screened on Showtime, and in Dubai and Beirut uncensored with all the seventeen scenes that were cut in Egypt by the censorship committee.
Sharif stressed that screening the film uncut is the only way it can be seen because all the scenes that were deleted in Egypt made the film loose its essential meaning. The producer added that he had previously agreed to the alterations made by the Egyptian Censorship in order not to rate it for adults only.
The singer is also preparing to film a new video clip for the song “Ibka Kabilni” (Keep Meeting Me), which is one of the songs in her first album that was released earlier this month. Sabri, Ruby’s business manager, will direct the new clip and filming will begin within the upcoming few days in Egypt. Sabri stated that Ruby will have a new look and a new style that is totally different than her fans are used to. Sabri refused to give out any further details regarding the clip wanting it to be a surprise for everyone.
Sabri is rushing to have the video clip ready as soon as possible because he signed an agreement with Infinity music satellite channel to broadcast the clip exclusively, which is a new channel and will be launched officially in October. It has been revealed that Sabri owns shares in the new channel and will hold a special launching ceremony in Dubai, where Ruby is also scheduled to participate. Ruby's clip will be the first exclusive one to be broadcasted on this channel in an attempt to gather as much viewers as possible for the newly established channel. –Albawaba.com
