Arab Superstar first runner-up Syrian singer Ruwaida Attieh revealed that in one year she had matured a lot and her confidence to face the cameras and fans has grown so much. Ruwaida said that her participation in Superstar 1 enabled her to reach a reasonable share of exposure that made her able to reach stardom faster than she expected but still after releasing her first album [Min Nazra] she thinks that ten years is the estimated time for her to reach the peak of her singing career.
According to the London based daily, Al Quds Al Arabi, the Syrian singer said that she keeps her voice ready by continuous training and avoiding foods and drinks that harm the voice. She stressed that people loved her performance when singing old classics which give a hint that the young generation does not concentrate only on light songs that revolve around fast beats and rhythms.
Answering a question about entering the acting world, Ruwaida did not disapprove and added that she took some lessons in acting to be able to perform in her video clips and she said that her abilities would be more obvious in her next video clip. The new video clip is done for the song [Maktoob li], which will show Ruwaida in seven scenes and seven different looks.
Ruwaida added that she feels grateful that she had such a nice voice that she doesn’t need to do seductive video clips to promote her songs. She also refuses to dance while singing, adding that for sure she gets excited when she sings but not to the extent of shaking all her body like belly dances.
Ruwaida is currently working on her second video clips and is listening to new tunes from different Arab countries like Egypt, the gulf, Syrian, Lebanon, and Jordan. Ruwaida says that she keeps contact with some of Superstar 1 colleagues like Shadi Aswad, Sa'ad Jamaliddin, Mohamed Lafi, Wael Mansour, adding that they wanted to keep friends with her unlike other colleagues.
The latest activities for Ruwaida is six concerts on Syria and then she will be participating in Latakia festival, and a world tour which includes USA, Canada, and Australia.
Ruwaida revealed that she does not mind being accused of imitating Lebanese singer Najwa Karam, stressing that its an honor to be compared to such a prominent singer. Ruwaida added that these accusations came due to the main song of her first album “Ti3ibt Ma3ak”, in which her manner in singing is very similar to Najwa’s.
Ruwaida noted that if people listen to the rest of the songs on her album, they will realize that she sounds different then Najwa and that she varies in her singing style. Ruwaida also revealed that she will soon undergo an examination to see if she qualifies to sing at the Egyptian Opera House.
Attieh released her first album "Min Nazra" (At First Glance) on April 28, 2004. The new singer has just completed filming her first music video directed by Basem Kristo, and released it along with her album. The video clip is for the song "ta3ebt ma3ak" and is produced by Shams Production Company. –Albawaba.com
