Khaled Bahjat, the director of the new drama series “Al Fanar,” starring Egyptian actress Sabrin, has accused “Al Manar” channel of ruining the drama series.
Bahjat claims that “Al Manar” excluded the beginning of the drama series and several scenes, including a rape scene upon which the drama is based.
There were also sleeves added to the arms of female actors starring in the drama series, according to Bahjat.
Bahjat asserted that only the name of the leading star, the writer, and the director appeared in the credits. The names of all the other actresses staring in the drama series were excluded, like Rania Yousif, Dina and Amy.
The actresses may sue the channel.
Bahjat also claims that “Al Manar” channel excluded the musical score of the drama and replaced it with Quranic prayers, like “Allah Akbar…Wa Lillah Al Hamd” (God Is Great…Thank You God).
On her behalf the Egyptian actress Sabrin said that it was a shock for the director and for her to discover such changes.
“There is nothing in the drama series that offends God or Muslim beliefs,” said Sabrin, “’Al Manar’ is free to do what it pleases on its channel, but it should respect the work of others, because there is no actor or director that likes to have their work changed by others.”
The drama series “Al Fanar” includes 30 episodes and was written by Majdi Saber.
The series also stars Ahmad Rateb, Mahmoud Al Jundi, and Tareq Lutfi.
The series shows the changes in Egyptian society from 1956 to 2008, and the political changes, such as how Muslim and Christians joined hands into fighting their enemy during the time of war.
