After being appointed a production supervisor at the Media Production City, Mamdouh Al Laithi has begun preparing a new major film about the late Egyptian president Anwar Al Sadat.

“The film is completely different from Ayyam Al Sadat (Sadat Days) starring Ahmed Zaki, and still being screened at many venues. The new film, entitled Al Qaed Al Aa’la (Higher Commander) and written by Salah Qabadaya, depicts the preparations for the 1973 war and the role of Sadat in the major victory. This period was mentioned, but not focused on, in the film Ayyam Al Sadat,” Laithi told the daily Al Sharq Al Awsat.

While Laithi refused to reveal the names of the stars and director, he said that the film’s budget would be more than Ayyam Al Sadat’s five million pounds.

Laithi has been selected to head the jury of Alexandria’s upcoming film festival, which will kick off on September 5. The other committee members will be Yahya Al Fakhrani, Mohsen Naser, Omar Khairat and Kamal Attiyyah - Albawaba.com
