The Ugly (Betty) truth: Salma Hayek to SUE Amy Samir Ghanem's showmakers
Egyptian actress Amy Samir Ghanem might have thought that she was going for an original project when she accepted a starring role in “hibat rajol al ghorab,” but unless she lives under a rock, she must have known that it's pretty much identical to the hit US TV series "Ugly Betty."
And Hollywood actress Salma Hayek is totes unhappy with the makers of Amy's show for allegedly stealing most of the creative ideas she put into the making of Ugly Betty.
As the famous show's producer, Salma assigned her legal counsel to procure moral and material rights following the damage caused to her.
Hayek’s series stars American star Ferrera, Vanessa Williams, Eric Maobz, Alan Dale, Tony Plana, Ana Ortiz, Ashley Jensen, and Mark Ondlkato.
According to some reports, the level of plagiarism extended to the use of Salma's own ideas, events, clothing and decors. But what truly enraged Salma was Amy's mediocre performance as America Ferrera, who played Betty, and blind imitation.
The famous actress called on her secretary to make sure whether or not the Egyptian company producing the series has signed with her and owns property rights to the story and series.
Yet, Salma found out that no contract was signed with the producer whatsoever. No negotiations took place to obtain the owner’s permission, either.
With the knowledge of all that, the actress had no choice but to immediately resort to legal proceedings.
