Satirical imitation causes Shabaan Abdul Rahim to file lawsuit

Egyptian actress Abla Kamil was in shock when she received a lawsuit filed by Egyptian singer Shabaan Abdul Rahim over her satirical imitation of him in her film “Kalim Mama” (Talk to Mother). In the film, which marks Abla’s first leading role, she sings a a song for Shabaan making fun of the way he performs. 

 

According to the Qatar based daily, Al Raya, Shabaan included the Egyptian Censorship Committee in his complaint saying that they had permitted the inclusion of his song in the film without his permission. He also threatened to humiliate Abla in his next film and satirically imitate her to make up for her actions. 

 

“Kalim Mama” revolves around how the strong bond of two young couple helps them overcome the hardest obstacle which is the refusal of their bond by their families. The love they share helps them conquer all barriers and transform the outburst of hatred from their families to love.  

 

The script is taken from Shakespeare’s “Romeo and Juliet” but changed into a satirical comedy that suits the modern era. The film will include a large number of musical scenes.  

 

Ablaa Kamil, Muna Shalabi, Hassan Husni, Dina, Ahmad Zaher, and Maha Ahmad costar in the film. The script is written by screenwriter Mustafa Al Sabaky, and directed by Ahmad Awad. The film is currently being screen in cinema houses across Cairo. –Albawaba.com
