Egyptian folksinger Shabaan Abdul Rahim has become famous for singing his point of view about politicians and discussing in his songs the entire political situation the region and the world are going through. Shabaan adds that he fears some of his songs may backfire, yet he is willing to face anything as long as his thoughts are being expressed.
Shabaan’s latest song is entitled “Ya Sit Condoleeza Rice” (Ms. Secretary of State Dr. Condoleeza Rice), in which he addresses her asking her to take it easy on Arabs and treat them with some kindness. He refers to her as the daughter of Hajj Ruza (meaning the grain rice) as a form of mockery. The song is filled with sarcasm of Dr. Rice and the United States and how their actions are apposite of what they preach.
Shabaan has revealed that he is in the process of forming a new music band with his sons. The singer stressed that he has been thinking about the idea for some time and always hoped to have a band of his own.
According to the UAE based daily, Al Bayan, the idea came to the singer after his duet with the Kuwaiti band “Maiami”, which witnessed tremendous success all around the Arab world. Shabaan noted that having his sons sing with him will surely bring him more success.
Shabaan held a concert on the Amphitheatre downtown Amman Jordan, and as always the theatre was full of people who see him as the singer of the people because of his way the words that he chooses, which are in most cases are taken from everyday life events.
