Egyptian singer Shireen Ahmad has been specially chosen to be the main highlight of this year’s Miss Egypt Beauty Pageant alongside Lebanese singer Samo Zein. The event is to be aired lived by Egyptian satellite channel Dream TV, which has bought the sole right to broadcast the pageant.
According to the London based Elaph, a press conference was recently held in which the details of the event were announced. Sixteen participants will compete for the title of Miss Egypt 2004, and the judging committee will feature Ecuador’s ambassador to Egypt, Miss Universe 2002, a representative from Christian Dior’s House of Fashion, Sarah Shaheen (Miss Egypt 2001), Egyptian actress Laila Elwi, and many more prominent figures from Egypt and abroad.
Contestants in the competition must fall under the age of 17 to 27 years old, and must have an Egyptian citizenship. All contestants must be single, educated, and enjoy a healthy lifestyle.
On a different note, Egypt’s Department of Civil Affairs has filed a complaint against Shireen and her ex-husband Midhat Khamis accusing them of forgery. The two are accused of falsification on the legal paper work for their identification cards. The department had received a phone call from an anonymous person notifying them that the personal ID card of the singer states she is single, and the same case applied to her ex-husband. An investigation into the matter began and it appeared that the singer did in fact apply for a new card, due to the fact that her previous one was lost, and the information she had included was that she was single, despite the fact that she had publicly announced on a TV program that she is a divorced woman.
It is yet unclear what legal actions are to be taken against the singer, but it is said that it will surely have some negative affect on her current engagement. Shireen had announced her engagement to an Egyptian-American businessman, who is not part of the entertainment world. Shireen held a private engagement party in her home, which consisted of her family and producer Naser Mahrous, whom she made up with recently, in addition to her fiancé’s family.
Shireen stressed that her marriage will not affect her music career, and that she plans on resuming her journey, especially since the upcoming period marks such an important one with the success she is accomplishing.
Shireen has already begun preparations for her big wedding day, which she reveals will be a grand one with the presence of all her friends from the entertainment world. The wedding is scheduled to be held at one of the grand hotels in Cairo this summer. -Albawaba.com
