Egyptian singer Shireen Ahmad, who is widely known for her hit single “Ah Ya Lail” (Oh Night), had previously said in an interview that she feels Egyptian singer Shireen Wajdi is in it for the money and fame, referring to the new style the latter has acquired in her latest music album. Ahmad added that Wajdi has sold out her true nature and regardless of all the awards and honors she has received lately she will always be the singer of one song only.
According to the London based Elaph, Shireen Wajdi did not take long to attack Ahmad for the comments made against her and openly ridiculed and criticized everything the latter stands for. Wajdi’s first comment was if she is considered the singer of only one song then Shireen Ahmad is a singer of no song and has no talent.
Wajdi added that she never gave up her true nature and style and remains the same person who always strives to present her audience with the best. She said if Shireen Ahmad had any artistic knowledge, she would have realized that Wajdi had always sang songs that were filled with meaning and reached the heart of listeners. Wajdi also said that Ahmad is regretfully trying to imitate her without any hope. Wajdi stressed that Shireen Ahmad can not be considered a real singer or even a holder of any successful song for she lacks any real talent as a singer and a performer.
Wajdi had ended her remarks by commenting on how Shireen Ahmad had previously said that she believes the people of Israel are kind, neglecting how much suffering they have caused for the Palestinians. She added that any singer who has something good to say about Israel, does not deserve the love or support of their fans and is considered to be a fake.
On a different note, Shireen Wajdi recently returned to Cairo-Egypt after performing a private concert for King Abdullah II of Jordan. Shireen held her performance as part of the birthday celebrations of the King. Members of the Jordanian royal family as well as high ranking official attended the event, which took place at the arena in Jordan National University.
Shireen had received a personal invitation from the Jordanian Royal Court offices to be part of the birthday celebrations for the King. It was added that a crowd of over 500 people were also present at the concert.
Shireen released her album “Wala Laileh” (Not One Night) by the music Production Company Rotana, known for being one of the Arab world’s top music production companies, on December 28, 2002. As part of Rotana’s style during any new release a huge advertising campaign was made on TV stations, magazines, and on every street corner was held for the Egyptian singer. In addition, a huge celebration was held for the release of Shireen Wajdi’s album at the Regency Palace hotel in Beirut. The big event, which was aired live by the satellite channel ART, was attended by a large number of journalists, singers and actors from the Arab world. The Algerian Fola, Haifa Wahbi, Alissa, Assi Hilani, Sabah and Miho, Madeline Matar, Madonna, the band Gitara and many others were among those who attended the event. –Albawaba.com
