Syrian prominent actor Duraid Laham, who is also known as one of the top Arab comedian-actors and UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador to the Middle East, has become part of the international network Showtime television's second campaign phase for "Go as far as you want whenever you wish". The campaign seeks to educate audience about the different variety Showtime offers for all home viewers.
According to the UAE based daily, Al Bayan, Duraid has expressed his joy at being part of the campaign stressing that he finds it very important to educate children, which is accomplished through the many different channels especially for children on Showtime. He added that the educational channels on Showtime are very essential and aim solely at teaching young children who spend most of their time in front of the television screen.
Recently critics had attacked Duraid over his television show “A’alam Duraid” (Duraid’s World) saying it was an imitation or basically a translation of the American sitcom The Cosby show. Producers have taken the exact scripts from the Bill Cosby show and translated it into Arabic.
For a well-known actor who has captured the hearts of audiences all over the Arab world, it was considered a shame that Duraid agreed along with the producer of the show to imitate the American show in that manner.
Duraid Lahham began his acting career in 1960 when Syrian TV was first created. His first role on TV was Ghawwar, which he innovated in many comedy series such as “Sahh al Nom” (Good Morning) and “Melh Wa Sukkar” (Salt and Sugar). He then developed his famous character Ghawar by including cinematic works. His acting technique or style represents the social critic genre in the form of comedy.
The Syrian artist, is a UN Good Intention Ambassador, and the presenter of the TV program “A’ala Mas’ouliaty” (On my Responsibility) on MBC. The show criticizes the political policies of the western governments and leaderships. – Albawaba.com
