Putting his 50 Cent's worth in Dubai
International-acclaimed artist, Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson, launches his SMS Audio brand Headphones at Gitex Technology Week in Dubai on Wednesday.
“SMS Audio is an extension of my music. You can steal my music but you can’t steal these headphones,” he joked.
"I have been involved with every aspect from the technology to the marketing. I wanted to do this properly and not just put my name or face to it" Curtis ‘50 Cent’ Jackson
Curtis ‘50 Cent’ Jackson, who gained fame after his seminal album “Get Rich or Die Tryin” released in 2003, has since built a business empire moving into film production, energy drinks and fashion accessories.
SMS Audio, launched earlier this year at the CES in Las Vegas, has been many years in the making, he said.
“I have been involved with every aspect from the technology to the marketing. I wanted to do this properly and not just put my name or face to it.”
In the Middle East, proceeds from sales of SMS Audio headphones in November will go to Dubai Autism Centre, it was announced.
50 Cent teased a reporter who asked him if he was worried about competition from a particular brand - referring to Beats by Dr Dre.
“Are you scared [to say the name]?” he joked, adding he was confident of his product’s superiority.
He also joked that he was constantly haunted by “In da club” the worldwide hit from “Get Rich Or Die Tryin”.
“I’ve made so many albums but it seems like I am always referred to with this song. I’m having a nervous breakdown right now,” he laughed, as the song played in the background.
