During the hosting of prominent Egyptian actress Sofia Al Omari on the live television program “Maestro” on the Arab satellite television channel New TV with announcer Nishian, the actress had suddenly passed out. It was revealed that the actress had fainted due to the fact that during the interview a reportage was screened about a humanitarian condition of two old people who are suffering from illness and neglect, and as a result of watching these painful scenes the actress could not control her splurge of emotions.
Close contacts to the actress know that Sofia is a very sensitive person and can not handle watching people suffer, and so the presenter was requested to stop screening the reportage and especially due to the fact that the old woman shown resembles Sofia’s mother, who passed away not too long ago. Sofia had begun crying once the announcer showed the report and was forced to go off air and go to commercials.
The state of sadness for the actress continued throughout the interview and got worse as the announcer kept asking questions about the reportage and her personal life forcing him to go to commercials several times. The actress suddenly was unable to speak and suddenly fainted and went unconscious until the Lebanese Red Cross arrived and did first aid to the actress in front of the live audience. The actress was then taken to the nearest hospital to undergo several tests.
On a different note, for the tenth time in a row, the United Nations (UN) has reassigned prominent Egyptian actress Sofia Al Omari as UN Goodwill Ambassador for Egypt and the Arab region. Sofia, who is going to meet the secretary general of the UN Kofi Anan, expressed her deepest feelings of happiness and appreciation to the UN for their ongoing trust in her.
Sofia will be meeting Anan next October to discuss a joint plan to enhance housing projects in a big conference under the patronage of the UN, the conference will include all Goodwill Ambassadors around the world.
Sofia has been UNFPA Goodwill Ambassador for Egypt, she has traveled throughout the Middle East promoting women’s right to reproductive health care, education and empowerment. In June 1999, she attended the UN General Assembly Special Session reviewing the five years since the Cairo conference on population and development.
