Washington-Grammy award winning artist Sting will take a brief respite from his world tour to join the Arab American community and to be honored one of 2001’s Kahlil Gibran "Spirit of Humanity" Awards on May 5 in Washington, DC, according to Arab American Institute Foundation (AAIF).
The Award, sponsored by (AAIF), recognizes Sting’s commitment to indigenous people and the environment as well as his efforts to promote cross-cultural understanding. The "Spirit of Humanity" award is named for the Arab American author of "The Prophet," whose work emphasized human endurance, love of humanity, the pride he felt in his Arabic heritage.
Past Gibran recipients include: George Mitchell, the YWCA, RFK Memorial Center for Human Rights, the Aga Khan Foundation, Frederico Mayor of UNESCO, ALSAC/St and Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital – Albawaba.com
