Egyptian actress Summaya Al Khashab has refused to gain weight for her role in the upcoming television drama “Raya and Iskeena,” costarring Egyptian actress Abla Kamel.
Director Jamal Abdul Hamid has begun filming at the Egyptian ‘Media Production City’ in Cairo.
The drama, scheduled to be aired during the holy month of Ramadan, when viewership is highest, is based on a true story of two sisters who murdered innocent women, and then proceeded to rob them of their processions. The story covers seventeen different murder cases, some of which actually took place.
According to the Qatar based daily, Al Raya, the producers requested that Summaya gain a few kilos in order to match that of Abla, but Summaya insisted the two women will have different weights. The actress argued that the original characters she and Abla are portraying were slender.
Summaya traveled to Beirut along with her mother to buy a number of dresses and accessories for her role in the drama, but ended up buying traditional dresses from Egypt instead.
For the first time, Summaya will face off with Lebanese singer/actress Nicole Saba in a new film, in which both compete to win the love of actor Khaled Abu Al Najja.
The new film is titled “Al Sa’ada Bain Eidaik” (Happiness is in your Hands), and includes singing performances by both stars.
