Holland is easily king when it comes to the home of the DJ and producer.

But fast forward to 2012 and Sweden is rapidly becoming the playground for the very best in electronic musical talent. Introducing Swedish Grammy Award-winners Rebecca & Fiona who will make their Dubai debut at the dxb Music Festival on Friday.

The Scandinavian stars are taking the music world by storm having just completed a giant tour of the US and are no less than mega-stars in their native homeland.

The current faces of Adidas for their Adidas All In campaign, the duo comprises Rebecca Scheja and Fiona Fitzpatrick and the girls have their finger in many pies.

Their own television show on Sweden’s main national channel, SVT, a double-platinum single, acting credits, collaborations with bands and DJs from all over the world, a new-found obsession with the festival circuit, it’s just a shame the girls aren’t better looking (not that we’re bitter!)

Signed to Universal Records, 2012 has been their year and the trend looks set to continue. New single Dance has just been released and the girls are now looking forward to dancing in Dubai.

Q. It used to be Holland who produced the DJs. How is Sweden catching up?

A. It’s dark and cold most of the year so there’s not much else to do other than to sit in the studio and bang out awesome house music.

Q. What kind of music can we expect this weekend?

A. We will try out a lot of new stuff mixed with our own originals and exclusive edits. We will go hard.

Q. What was it like working with Kaskade and who else would love to work with?

A. It was a great experience for us. It meant a lot in terms of us breaking into the US market; Kaskade is such a star over there and he’s also the nicest guy ever. There are lots of people we’d like to work with, but right now we’re concentrating on our own stuff for our upcoming album, most of which we’ve produced and written ourselves.

Q. Rebecca — how do you juggle acting, Djing and producing?

A. I’ve sort of taken a pause from acting since my artist career took off. The DJ and producing thing goes hand in hand, but the biggest challenge is to make new music when you’re touring all the time.

Q. Faces of Adidas hey? Are you into sports or is it just about the fashion?

A. Fiona used to be Swedish junior rock climbing champion so there’s definitely sports there, but nowadays not so much. We’re not that into fashion per se and mostly buy second hand clothes but style is of course important to us.

Q. How was your 2012 Grammy Award speech? Did mum and dad get a mention?

A. It was amazing. We were so surprised — the competition was crazy tough (SHM, Avicii, Adrian Lux). When they called out our name we were just baffled and didn’t know what to say, we were just there to party and never thought we’d win over those guys. So the thank you speech came out kind of weird, we don’t even remember what we said.

Q. How was the US tour?

A. We toured heavily from March to August, with about 60 shows. We’ve had a break for a couple of months but will be going back for the Escape From Wonderland festival on October 27 to do our first ever full live show. That’s super exciting.

Tickets for the dxb Music Festival at Festival Park, Dubai Festival City, priced Dh350 and Dh500 for VIP, are available at platinumlist.ae and Virgin Megastores.
