Tamer and Haitham from prison to the cinema
Egyptian singers Tamer Husni and best friend Haitham Shaker will act side by side in a new film, after serving a sentence together in one prison cell for forging legal documents to avoid military service.
Producer/director Nasr Mahrous is working on the new film that will feature the two stars. Scenarist Ahmad Abdul Fatah revealed that the film will be complete in the near future and has been titled “Al Fareeq” (The Team), initialy. The film revolves around six characters, the remaining four actors have yet to be chosen.
Ahmad wrote the script for Tamer’s first film “Halet Hub” (A Case of Love) and his third “Amro and Salma”, which Tamer is almost done filming. He hopes to have it ready for screening this holiday season.
Tamer and Haitham were convicted by a military court and sentenced to a one year prison term for forging official papers to avoid military service. A third accomplice, who actually forged the papers, received a five-year prison term. Tamer’s popularity has only increased since his arrest and sentencing.
Husni will return to the scenes after Egyptian General Hussein Tantawi gave his approval for Tamer to give a performance at the Chinese Hall in Nasr City.
Tamer is currently serving in the military and is not permitted to hold concerts without the military’s approval.
The event is organized by head of the Egyptian company MobiNil, Najib Sweiris in Cairo. Sweiris succeeded in getting the military’s permission for Tamer to sing, reported the London based Elaph. Once the military gave the singer the green light to perform preparations began for the big event.
MobiNil will also launch a major advertising campaign, including a series of commercials for the company to be screened on different Arab satellite television channels.
