Egyptian actress Tayseer Fahmi exploited her visit to Lebanon upon an invitation from MBC channel and Future TV to gear up for an immense series which will gather artists from all over the Arab world calling on Arabs to unite through art. She considers art as the tool for change and development of Arab societies.
“If we surrender to despair and take the stagnant stances of the Arab governments as an excuse for doing nothing, we won’t achieve anything in life. But if the art movement is accompanied with public uprising, the influence will be stronger and more effective. Evidence on this is the Palestinian Intifada which started with a stone and yet managed to make the life of the occupier like hell,” Fahmi told the London based Arabic daily al Sharq al Awsat.
Fahmi did not rule out the possibility of the Arab political powers to politicize art because they claim the presence of freedom in their countries and so they leave art and press a margin of freedom to say whatever they want. Nevertheless the actress does not count much on governments but aspires to change the Arab peoples. In her opinion the most important thing is to reach the western peoples who have been misled about what is going on in the Arab world in order to explain to them the oppression which Palestinians and other Arabs face.
Fahmi criticized the competition among Arab countries as every one of them is concerned only about proving its excellence over the other instead of rushing to form one army and a common Arab market that would strengthen the Arab position. “How are billions of dollars spent on a news channel to enable it curse certain Arab countries instead of allocating these sums to an English channel that would compete with the Zionist media and achieve positive results for the Arab world?” added Fahmi -- Albawaba.com
