Tour Guides Union demands an end to Laila Elwi’s drama
Head of the Tour Guides Union, Mohammad Ghareeb is demanding the Egyptian Information Minister halt the screening of the new television drama “Nour El Sabah” (Morning Light), aired on local Egyptian television and starring Egyptians Laila Elwei and Hussein Fahmi.
Lawsuits are being filed against writer Majdi Sabri, director Samir Seif, and Laila for slandering tour guides. Three hundred members of the union filed complaints because of the image Laila presents, claiming it is an insult to their profession.
Laila plays the role of a tour guide who travels around Egypt explaining the country’s rich history.
Laila’s role in the drama does not reflect the reality of tour guides, for in real life tour guides do not just drink and dance, it is hard work, said Ghareeb.
Laila is fluent in English and French along with Arabic, making here suitable for the role. The producers of the drama used actual European tourists for certain scenes with Laila.
On a different note, Elwi has denied recent circulating rumors that she was secretly married. If she were to marry she would proudly publicly announce it, said Laila.
Laila questioned why she has been accused of such an act, when it is well known that she is an open person with nothing to hide.
Previously rumors were circulating in the entertainment world claiming that Laila is considering resigning from her acting career after facing numerous problems. Laila had been avoiding the media, refusing to hold interviews or make public appearances.
