The world turbulent economic and political conditions currently prevailing have cast their shadows over the Egyptian box office to the extent that competition during the Fitr Eid has been limited to five films only, according to the Kuwaiti News Agency (KUNA).
Among the competing films during the feast holiday are Rihlet Hobb (Love Journey) directed by Mohammed Al Naggar and costarring Mohammed Fuad and Mahitab, the film Gawaz Biqarar Gomhuri (Marriage by Presidential Decree) directed by Khaled Yousef and costarring Hani Ramzi and Hanan Turk and the film Zakiyyah Zakariyya Fi Al Barlaman (Zakiyyah Zaskariyya in the Parliament) directed by Raed Labib and starring Ibrahim Nasr.
The Egyptian screening venues will also screen the film Muwaten Wa Mukhber Wa Harami (Citizen, Detective and Thief) directed by Dawood Abdel Sayyed and costarring young actor Khaled Abul Naga and pop singer Shaaban Abdel Rahim. The fifth film is Gaana Al Bayaan Al Tali (we Have received the Following Communiqué) which ha been screened over the past three months). The film is directed by Said Hamed and costarring the comedy actor, Mohammed Henaidi, Hanan Turk, Fuad and Ramzi.
Muwaten Wa Mukhber Wa Harami depends in its success on Abdel Rahim who has recently become famous for his song Ana Bakrah Israel (I Hate Israel) while the other one “Zakiyyah Zakariyya in the Parliament” depends on the fame acquired by the artist Nasr for his three-year TV performance of a female comedy character named Zakiyyah Zakariyya.
On the other hand, some prominent stars including Adel Imam, Nadia Al Gondi and Ahmed Adam preferred not to appear on the art arena during the Eid holiday. The executives of the film Amir Al Zalam (Prince of Darkness) starring Adel Imam saw it suitable to screen the film during the forthcoming summer season leaving the Fitr and Sacrifice Eid holidays without what is described as the feasts’ films. Furthermore, the executives of the film Al Raghabh (Desire) costarring Nadia Al Gondi, nicknamed audiences’ star, and Elham Shahin found it necessary to postpone its screening until the Sacrifice Feast holiday when only two films will be screened: Okhulooha Aminin (Enter it Safely) starring Yousef Mansour and Al Ragol Al Abyad Al Mutawasset starring Adam.
