Wardah gives up wage for Egypt’s sake
Prominent Algerian singer Wardah has agreed to record a new song produced by the Egyptian Radio titled “Masr Ya Ahla wa Ajmal, wa Ana Lisah Ala Al Rababah Baghani” (Egypt the beautiful, and I will keep sings to the tunes). The song is written by Awad Badawi and composed by Waleed Saed.
According to the internet website MBC.net, Warda has agreed to sing the song without getting paid. The song is part of a number of songs the station is producing in an attempt to revive the Egyptian song after it has witnessed a downfall in the recent period.
Journalist Wajdi Al Hakim was given the mission to convince Wardah to sing the song and had visited her at her home in Cairo and presented with the proposal. The singer immediately agreed when she learned that the song is written by Awad and composed by Waleed, whom she respects and trusts their work.
During the negotiations between Wardah and Wajdi, the singer refused to talk about financial matters stressing that the station is already facing financial difficulties and she will not add to it. She added that she is honored to sing a song specifically to Egypt.
