With all the hype, the standard of singers hadn't been up to much in the last two shows, so it was with some trepidation that viewers tuned in to this weekend's X Factor Arabia auditions.
Thursday and Friday were the last chance for contestants to go through to the next stage and the first episode got off to a controversial start. Among the mediocre lot of hopefuls was one girl who really stood out. But the wannabe was not so much an unknown as a star already as it emerged that she had been a key member of reality show, 'Asma'a Basetta'. Still the judges weren't put off and decided to put her through to the next round.
Next up to stir trouble was 'Habeeba', a young hopeful from Morocco who stunned the judges with her voice. But before the singing even began, she claimed she was "better than Elissa" - one of the team of judges on the show. Although she got through, it looks like Habeeba will be making waves with the sexy Lebanese songstress in the future!
It wasn't just the contestants who were creating drama. Judge Wael Kfoury decided he'd had enough of fellow Lebanese singer and judge, Carole Samaha, and stormed off set in anger. But it turned out the whole sulk was really a prank and he came back having fooled the rest of the celebs.
Friday's show was no less dramatic as viewers followed the story of Sameh al Sanadili, a wannabe from Syria who told judges he had been auditioning for talent shows for the past eight years. Turns out it was eighth time lucky for poor Sameh though, who was thrilled to go through to the next round.
So-called 'King of Romance' and X Factor judge, Wael, was back to his old tricks, getting up on stage and pretending to be one of the contestants to entertain the crowd during one of the breaks. But fellow star, Elissa, didn't fair as well with the audience after she turned down Algerian contestant, Amel Etebi. The Lebanese songstress told the hopeful that at least she had got to visit her home country, to which Amal replied:
"I came to Lebanon. I didn't come to see you."
Wael turned to his fellow judge to say "she hates you".
Let's hope Elissa has more luck getting her contestants to like her in the second round!
