Yahya Al Fakhrani Stipulates: Censors Not to Interfere in ‘King Farouq’
The Egyptian TV has included the series Kana Malikan (He Was a King) which is about the life history of the Late king Farouq, within its production plan. But censors have their own remarks on the script.
Meanwhile, the series star Yahya Al Fakhrani put a condition that the censors should not interfere.
“There is only a historical committee of advisors which will review the series but there should no interference by the censors,” Fakhrani told the London based daily Al Sharq Al Awsat.
He added, “I am keen to begin shooting the series during this month because if more years have to pass without starting, I shall be older and become irrelevant to take the role due to age discrepancy between me and Farouq during his tenure as a king.”
However, Fakhrani’s wife Lamis Gaber wrapped up the series script more than six year ago. Besides, the Egyptian satellite channel Dream began negotiating with Fakhrani to reach an agreement for airing the series.
About Kana Malikan, Al Fakhrani told Albawaba.com, “It is a huge project, which should be implemented by the government because it needs a hefty budget and tells about the history of our country. My wife Lamis Jaber, who took eight years to study the character of the late king Farouq of Egypt, has scripted the series. My wife reviewed more than 300 reference works, and the series will cover a very important era of our history from the birth until the death of the king.”
He explained, “The series, which will reveal many facts unknown to people and correct many misunderstandings, particularly the stepping down of the king not only for his personal behavior but also for his mistakes, does not include any fictitious characters. All the characters were real and played their roles during that era. The series also is about the king’s relationship with his mother who had strong political views. The series requires travel to more than one place, and the shooting will take place in a large number of palaces.” - Albawaba.com
