Egyptian actor Yehya al Fakhrani withdrew his TV series Kana Malikan Malikan (He Was a King) which is about the life history of the Late king Farouq, from the Egyptian TV Production Department.

Although the Egyptian TV included the series within its production plan, Fakhrani withdrew it and signed a new agreement with the Egyptian satellite channel Dream which had offered him to produce the series and to fulfil all his conditions.

Fakhrani told the London-based daily al Sharq al Awsat that he asked the Egyptian TV to produce the series before four years, and till now, he hasn’t received a clear and direct response, which made him take this decision.

However, the Egyptian censorship has its own remarks on the script, while, the series star Yehya Fakhrani put a condition that the censors should not interfere.

“There is only a historical committee of advisors which will review the series but there should no interference by the censors,” Fakhrani told the daily.

Later, Fakhrani told Albawaba.com, “It is a huge project, which should be implemented by the government because it needs a hefty budget and tells about the history of our country. My wife Lamis Jaber, who took eight years to study the character of the late king Farouq of Egypt, has scripted the series. My wife reviewed more than 300 reference works, and the series will cover a very important era of our history from the birth until the death of the king.”

He explained, “The series, which will reveal many facts unknown to people and correct many misunderstandings, particularly the stepping down of the king not only for his personal behavior but also for his mistakes, does not include any fictitious characters. All the characters were real and played their roles during that era. The series also is about the king’s relationship with his mother who had strong political views. The series requires travel to more than one place, and the shooting will take place in a large number of palaces.”

The prominent director Mohammed Khan is nominated to direct the series Kana Malikan - Albawaba.com
