Egyptian director Munir Radi was surprised with a turn down from most of the new generation of Egyptian actors to portray Christians in his latest movie Hindi (name).

According to Cinema magazine, Radi said that the actors have adamantly refused to play Christian characters in his new movie because such roles “might affect their popularity with their fans.”

The Paris based publication cited a few of the actors who rejected Radi’s offer, naming famous comedians Mohammad Hneidi, Al’a Wallieddine, Hisham Abbas, Ahmad Adam and drama actor Mohammad Fouad

Currently, the director is pondering the possibility of hiring Egyptian singer Midhat Saleh for the role; although other candidates were on his list.

Earlier, the rejection led Radi to think of famous Algerian singer, Sheb Khaled

However, friends of the director in Paris discouraged him from doing so because of Khaled’s lack of respect for time and deadlines.

The controversial role is that of a Christian, gossip-loving barber who likes to sing.

The movie’s script was written by Hani Fawzi. – Albawaba.com.
