Yousra to go on strike if Adel Emam is jailed
Prominent Egyptian actress Yousra said that the verdict sentencing prominent Egyptian comedian actor Adel Emam him to three months in jail for blasphemy against Islam in his films is absurd and will blemish the image of Egyptian art. She said that she does not fear Islamists or the fate of Adel, and Adel is jailed she will go on strike.
According to the London based Elaph, Yousra said that such a sentencing of Adel is unjust, especially since Adel has always been known as an icon of the acting world and many see him as role model and a mentor.
The actress stressed that she and all Egyptians will not accept Adel’s imprisonment, and if that happens a strike will take place until a law is passed that protects the rights and freedom of stars.
Yousra said she is confident all Egyptians and Arabs, who have been watching Adel’s films for the past 50 years, support Adel and they will protect him.
She said there is a need to adopt laws to protect actors, singers and all artists in Egypt from attacks made by Islamists.
Islamists are taking advantage of Islam by creating their own rules and what they are doing is not based on the teachings of Islam or legal under Egyptian law, added Yousra.
