An Emirati Etihad Airways staff member who has recently returned from a journey to Antarctica will be inspiring audiences with tales of his unique experience in the ‘icy deserts’ at the first ever TEDxAbuDhabiU, a conference designed to enable educational institutes and businesses to discuss “ideas worth spreading”.
TEDxAbuDhabiU is part of TED, a global set of conferences formed to bring together people from backgrounds of technology, entertainment and design to share world-changing ideas with the public.
At the first TEDxAbuDhabiU to be held in the capital at Abu Dhabi University on April 23, Etihad Environment Ambassador Taryam Al Subaihi will be one of 13 guest speakers who will spend the morning and most of the afternoon addressing an expected audience of over 500 people. The presentations at TEDxAbuDhabiU will be based on the theme ‘dare to’, with speakers sharing their ideas and experiences about how they have dared to take on various challenges in their lives.
Taryam Al Subaihi, Etihad Airways Corporate Communications Manager, said: “It will be an honour and pleasure to represent Etihad at TEDxAbuDhabiU, an internationally recognised event followed by millions of students, academics and professionals from across the globe.
“I will be re-living the incredible expedition to Antarctica with the audience and talking not only about how I dared to take on this journey, but more importantly, what environmental messages I have brought back for my people and my country.”
Taryam will also be conducting a workshop at TEDxAbuDhabiU entitled ‘embracing the challenge’ where he will hold group discussions about how to achieve goals that the workshop participants feel are unachievable.
What started out as a four-day conference in California 25 years ago, TED has grown to support world-changing ideas with multiple initiatives. The annual TED Conference invites the world’s leading thinkers and doers to speak for 18 minutes. Their talks are then made available, free at TED.com. TED speakers have included Bill Gates, Al Gore, Jane Goodall, Elizabeth Gilbert, Sir Richard Branson, Nandan Nilekani, Philippe Starck, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Isabel Allende and UK Prime Minister Gordon Brown.
