Image 1 of 14: Gaddafi makes the final selection and, despite his insistence that his hand-picked guards are chaste, supposedly all virgins, rumors are rife that he demands their sexual favours.
Image 1 of 14: Gaddafi in safe hands. These ladies are trained to kill. Don’t be fooled by appearances: some of these lasses are real gems, but they will dazzle you like the deadly green glow of kryptonite if you mess with their Man.
Image 1 of 14: The girls wear lipstick, jewelry, polished nails, and even high heels: yet they still don’t come off as traditional girly girls who love to dress up as lady’s of the night, or beach bunnies.
Image 1 of 14: He thinks it’s good for them: Gaddafi believes it is empowering for women to be his bodyguards. He says, “Women should be trained for combat, so that they do not become easy prey for their enemies.” Presumably men?
Image 1 of 14: 24 hour watchfulness, women after all naturally in tune with guarding their young: These specimens of the female species ‘more deadly than the male’ are hand-picked by Gaddafi himself. (on killer instinct or hotness?)
Image 1 of 14: A warm relationship with Berlusconi means sharing (female) staff resources or Guards? My Amazonian is your Amazonian. What’s mine is yours.
Image 1 of 14: His personal unit of female guards clad in blue camouflage uniforms, who will protect him around the clock, not leaving his side, are trained killers.
Image 1 of 14: Trained to kill for him and to die for him (is this romance gone askew?) in 1998 one of them, rumored his favorite, got killed saving his life, throwing herself over his body into the line of fire when the Colonel’s motorcade was ambushed .
Image 1 of 14: Has a thing for groups of women: the Libyan leader hosted a party in Rome in 2009, where he hired around 200 young women, whom he tried to convert to Islam.
Image 1 of 14: Gaddafi insists on selecting female guards for his belief in their sixth sense that allows them to sense danger. Or that they look hot carrying guns. He’s got a penchant for nurses too we hear.
Image 1 of 14: The competition is rumored to be fierce as many women would ‘kill’ to serve on this elite security squad of siren sentries. Women are dying to take on this role, as the dead bodyguard who took a bullet for him.
Image 1 of 14: His argument on creating female fighters is that if women are trained and taught the art of combat they can better protect themselves and not be victims like those in other war torn
Image 1 of 14: The renowned secretarial hand-picking by business men now translated into military standards. All of his girls are said to swear an oath that they will give their lives for him; they never leave his side, night or day.
Image 1 of 14: Like other aspects of his ostentations attention-seeking behavior, this eye-catching ensemble or entourage forms part of the tent-like nature of his costume of spectacle he likes to relish in.
Not his daughter, not his mistresses, but his Guards. The Amazonian Guards: These are the ladies in Gaddafi’s life everyone’s talking about.
We’ve heard of Leaders of States in time memoriam surrounding themselves with women. In some parts of Europe having mistresses is par for the course for men, culturally, and never more so than for men in power. In other quarters, it causes scandals of sleaze in the cabinet and arouses much uproar – at times spilling over into protests, as witnessed with Italy’s Main Man, Berlusconi under female fire over his one (Moroccan) girl-too many.
In the Middle East too such chauvinism is common-place. Gaddafi takes this figurative notion of being surrounded by ladies literally and recruits ladies to accompany him in the name of state security. As such, he is certainly living the male dream of power and women (or harem) by having an entourage of female supposedly virgin body guards that live and ‘will’ (and have done) die for him.
Glitzy Gorgeous Guards
With just one daughter, Ayesha, he has reinforcements of female presence in the ‘family’ through his Amazonian all-female–strong team of bodyguards.
Women in army gear? It is well known that a lot of countries are promoting more women on the military front line. But in the Middle East this is still not a common phenomenon outside of Israel—where the state carries a whopping women third of all IDF soldiers who can serve in 90% of all roles.
The Libyan authoritarian ruler literally places his women- in the form of militarized security- on the first line of defence, recruiting between 30 and 40 female body guards.
The Amazonian Guard is the stuff of legend- but real and on Gaddafi’s ground: the uniformed women are very much live in the flesh, and are photographed all the time with Gaddafi, especially when he travels.
In fact, at this time they may be the most loyal instrument he has: as units of his army defects en mass, the media and international community charge him with genocide, and Libyans from across the board are demanding loudly an end to his four-decade rule, he cleaves more defiantly to his loyal ladies.
The Gritty Gory details on the Girl Guard.
Tough Recruitment Criteria:
To qualify they must all be virgins and take a vow of chastity when becoming official bodyguards. Wow, is this a nunnery or the girl guide scouts? (and even their oath doesn’t extend to their virgin-hood but their good citizenship and serving the country, helping grannies and wot not..)
