The Interim Skilled Nursing Facility at Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) completed one year of successful service to its long term patients at Hamad Medical City. The facility was inaugurated last year by HMC Managing Director, Dr. Hanan Al Kuwari for the benefit and care of long term patients.
“The facility offers a homely atmosphere for the long term patients. The 80 bed facility is geared towards extending continued medical care and rehabilitation services for the residents. Families of the patients are encouraged to be actively involved in the activities of patient care and well being,” said Ms. Judith Don, Executive Director of Rumailah hospital.
Ms. Barbara De Fleuriot, Director of Nursing at the Interim Skilled Nursing Facility gave a detailed overview of the growth and expansion of the facility in the last one year.
“In May 2010, when the facility was opened we received 18 residents. By October 2010 we had 78 residents and we were fully occupied. We have both Qatari and expatriate residents consisting of both male and female patients,” Ms. De Fleuriot said.
She further stated that the patients are referred from various hospitals under HMC, Home Care services and even from Public Heath Centers.
The patient care is provided through an interdisciplinary team of medical professionals including physicians and nurses, occupational therapists, physiotherapists, speech therapists, social workers and dieticians.
The Interim Skilled Nursing at building number 30 at medical city offers a comprehensive patient care for residents, who require medical care and assistance for a very long time.
The anniversary celebration activities at medical city hotel included a small video presentation of the workings of the facility since its inception in May 2010. Certificates of appreciation were also distributed to the deserving staff. Many of the residents of the Interim Skilled Nursing Facility also took part in the celebrations.
