King's Speech wins Oscar, but real winner of Oscar for best world-stage-act was Gadaffi's Speech(es)

Colin Firth may have won the Oscar for Best Actor, but it was Libyan dictator Colonel Muammar Al Gaddafi who got the most mentions.

Sharing snapshots of the world twittering on Gadaffi even while discussions of the Oscars were providing light relief from the histrionics and theatricals of Mid-East Revolution.

It’s big news here in Israel that “Strangers No More”— a documentary film that focuses on a South Tel Aviv school attended by zarim, Hebrew for foreigners or strangers—has won an Oscar.

For all it's talk of exemplifying "through education, understanding, and tolerance, peace really is possible.” Mondoweiss' Mya says PEACE SHMEACE!! as she sets the tone of the blog item, cutting to the crux: "what is the Israeli government showing us by planning a mass expulsion of such children? Understanding and tolerance won’t be found here. (And you’d better look somewhere else for peace, too)."

Absurdly, "the deportation of 400 children and their parents is scheduled to begin on Sunday—just a week after “Strangers No More” won an Oscar. Just a week after a crowd in the US applauded the touching story of foreigners who find a home here in Israel." Including the child actor and star of the film.

The uprisings in Egypt, Libya, and Bahrain (and elsewhere) have not been “spinoffs” of the Tunisian intifada, at least not in any simple way.
