Protesters reject Tamer Husni’s participation
Egyptian singer Tamer Husni recently tried to participate in demonstrations at Egypt’s Tahrir Square, where mass popular protests against Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak have been taking place since 25 January, demanding a new leadership.
During the videotaped incident, Tamer was strongly rejected by fellow protesters and some even tried to attack him, claiming that Tamer had no right to participate after announcing his support for Mubarak.
Tamer said that he went to Tahrir Square to make a speech to clarify his stance toward Mubarak and show his new-found support for the protesters, but protesters demanded he leave.
“I did not know the value and true meaning of the cause behind the protests,” said Tamer, adding that he had been tricked into making a public statement on live television to show his support for Mubarak.
When protesters tried to physically harm him, Tamer was immediately escorted out of the square.
