The chilling video of a mother screaming for her son in Syria's Aleppo
A video of a Syrian mother calling out for her son shoots the conflict into visceral reality. (Twitter)
Monday saw another brutal attack Syrian government on a rebel-held area of Aleppo, where airstrikes hit a crowded marketplace in the city's Sha'ar neighborhood.
Eighteen civilians were killed in the shelling, according to UK-based monitor Syrian Observatory for Human Rights. And like most government airstrikes, the aftermath was heavily documented by local activists and families. Images of burned fruit stands and ashen faces tore across social media, depicting yet another example of the unending violence gripping residents who still remain in the war-torn country.
But nothing from Monday's strike captures the enormity of this conflict's human tragedy quite like the video of a Syrian mother screaming out for her son minutes after the attack. Here, the woman searches frantically, calling out her son's name before screaming out: "Mohamin is gone, Mohamin has died."
In the conflict's splintered mosaic of tragedy, some things stick with us far after clips have played through and social media users have spoken up. And as the war dives deeper into the murky waters of foreign influence and unimaginable confusion, this is one of the clips that reminds us who is ultimately hurt the most.
