Saudi mother offers daughter ‘as gift’ to police officer who killed two Daesh fighters
Saudis have objected to the idea that a girl can be given as "a gift" in marriage (Pixabay)
“My daughter is a present to Jabran” has been trending on Twitter, after it was reported that one Saudi mother had offered her daughter as a gift to the police officer who killed two members of Daesh in Riyadh on Saturday.

Corporal Jabran Bin Jaber Awaji received high praise on social media after a video of him engaged in a shoot-out with the two individuals who were wearing suicide vests was shared widely.

تضحية للوطن وإستقراره
A situation which underscores courage and loyalty (lit. belonging). A sacrifice for the homeland and its stability. Thank you #JabranAwajiHero
However one mother has taken her celebrations to another level, reportedly offering her 22-year-old daughter in marriage to Awaji.
Sayidaty magazine reported that the woman, named only as “Um Ahmed”, made the proposal on behalf of her daughter Ola as “a token of love and pride for his courageousness in dealing with terrorists.”
Apparently, Um Ahmed has no problem with her daughter being his second or third wife and Awaji would not even need to provide a bride price or marriage costs.
While it is not clear whether this story is apocryphal, it has certainly captured Saudi imaginations. Many responded with disbelief and anger on Twitter, objecting to the suggestion that a woman can be given as a present:

Jabran does not want your daughter as a gift, Jabran is married to the homeland.
Where is the problem if he agreed and the girl agreed? If there was not permission, that is a problem, of course, but as long as they are satisfied may God guide them and give them all the best.
The killed assailants are believed to have been heavily involved in plotting the failed bombing of the Prophet’s Mosque in Medina last July.
