Al Ain star Omar Abdul Rahman excited about facing Man City
The UAE playmaker, who trained with the Blues two years ago after impressing at the London Olympics, is set to be part of the Al Ain side that takes on the English Premier League champions at the official opening of the Hazza Bin Zayed Stadium.
Even though The Boss will play in the UAE President’s Cup final against Al Ahli on Sunday, Abdul Rahman says he is keen to play against City.
“I am looking forward to the game and so are all the players here,” Abdul Rahman said after Tuesday night’s AFC Champions League win over Al Jazira. “We all have a lot of respect for Manchester City, they have some of the best players in the world. Every player, no matter who they play for, wants to play against the best teams and the best players.
“It is not just a match for the players,” he said. “It is for the whole city. The fans will enjoy it a lot and the whole community in Al Ain is feeling excited about the match.”
The game will herald a new era for Al Ain and their new home. The four-month-old Hazza Bin Zayed Stadium will take its place on the world stage for the first time, confirming its status as one of the best sports facilities in the region.
“It’s a proud moment for us to play against such a great team at the Hazza Bin Zayed Stadium,” Abdul Rahman added. “It’s a great stadium, one of the best that I have played in, and what better way to show the world how good it is than a match against Manchester City?”
Al Ain’s top scorer Asamoah Gyan, who will also be competing in this summer’s World Cup with his native Ghana, is also set to make an impact against City.
“Man City have great players and they are playing in a bigger league,” he said. “Their confidence level will be high after winning the title and they have nothing to lose.
“They are coming here to show us their skills. They have quality players who are capable of playing quality football. It is going to be interesting as some players from other teams will also be joining us.”
