Arsenal chasing Napoli's Insigne
With Arsene Wenger knowing he has to strengthen his side in the coming months in hopes of having a better run at the top of the Premier League table and a better European campaign, he is believed to be looking towards the Italian peninsula for new blood.
Napoli star Lorenzo Insigne is believed to be the latest prospect for the French manager according to the Star, but he is expected to encounter a tough battle to prize him away from Rafael Benitez's club.
The 23-year-old winger has been inspirational and what he lacks in height at only 5'4" he makes up for in heart and ability.
Over the last two campaigns he has produced 13 goals in 81 appearances for Napoli while having produced 39 goals the two years prior on-loan in Serie B to Foggia and Pescara.
According to comments from Napoli they are honored to have their young player linked with Arsenal but have no intention of selling him without a massive concrete offer:
“We take into account the praising reports that Wenger has given about the player.
We are honoured that a club like Arsenal could have Lorenzo on their wish list.
However, from here to take it to the next level, that is a possible transfer, there is a huge mountain in between named Napoli.
The club consider him without a shadow of a doubt as one of their key players for their ambitious project.
Hence, as of today, I don’t see that there can be any further developments unless Arsenal speak to Napoli directly and Napoli change their view on Lorenzo’s role here.”
Arsenal still have a lot of time but with clubs like Liverpool already making swift moves in the market, the Gunners will have to start doing the same to keep pace over the summer.
