Pires: Next season will be much better for Ozil
The £42 million midfielder did not settle in right away and many fans turned their backs on him believing he was not worth the money and was not cut out for the English Premier League.
However, after enduring a tough first half of the campaign dealing with adapting to a new league, new club and teammates and a new game all together as the English style of football is completely different than Spain, he began to find his feet.
In many ways there is a belief that the pace and physicality of the Premier League and former Arsenal legend Robert Pires believes just that as did his recent comments regarding Ozil to the Mirror support the German to kick and do great things for the North London side:
"I like Ozil. He is a very good player, with quality. My first game was at Sunderland and when you come to the UK it's very difficult because the football is completely different.
For me, it was very difficult for six or seven months. When I see Mesut, I say he has had a good first Premier League season. Next season, he will be much better.
After six or seven months, it gets easier. It's totally different in the UK and now Mesut knows!"
Ozil still has the chance to help the Gunners lift their first piece of silverware in ten years if they defeat Hull City in the FA Cup Final in the coming weeks.
At the close of the season the German maestro finished his campaign with five league goals and led the side with nine assists over the course of the EPL campaign and that provides a solid building block for his morale next season as the Gunners look to return to the EPL title race once more.
