Egypt parliamentary election to be held on Nov. 28
Egypt will hold a parliamentary election on Nov. 28, the official news agency said on Wednesday. Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak, 82, issued a decree calling for a vote to the lower house on Nov. 28, MENA news agency reported.
The vote will be for 508 seats with an additional 10 seats appointed by the president. There are 64 more elected seats this year than in 2005. The additional seats can only be contested by women. Women hold only a few seats in the current parliament.
After the first round on Nov. 28, any re-run votes will be held on Dec. 5, MENA reported. The new parliament will gather for its first session on Dec. 13, MENA added.
