Official denies reports on imminent Palestinian Authority government reshuffle
A Palestinian Authority government official denied Tuesday press reports regarding an imminent government reshuffle to be announced within days by Prime Minister, Salam Fayyad. Government Information Centre chief Ghassan al-Khatib stated the cabinet reshuffle and its timing are decided by Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and his prime minister.
Al Khatib stressed that in the past Abbas said in more than one occasion that a reshuffle is in the pipeline, but a specific schedule is yet to be announced. According to Al Khatib, he has no official information about a specific date.
Recent press reports have indicated that the changes in the Fayyad government will be announced after the Tuesday's meeting of Fatah Revolutionary Council.
According to the reports, the reshuffle will include six ministries and the appointment of a new finance minister for the first time as Fayyad have been keeping this portfolio since it was in the mid-2007.
