Report: Mubarak tried last-minute escape to Saudi Arabia
An Egyptian newspaper on Wednesday quoted "reliable sources" as saying that late Monday night the former president Hosni Mubarak tried to escape the country to Saudi Arabia, using a private helicopter.
According to "Al Wafd" daily, the traffic control tower at Sharm el-Sheikh airport got requests of two private flights from Tabuk airport heading to Sharm El-Sheikh and then Riyadh airport and a helicopter from Sharm El-Sheikh airport to Tabuk.
A source at Sharm el-Sheikh Airport said the information was that the helicopter is expected to take Mubarak family members to Saudi Arabia. This was an attempt of the former president to escape after the declaration by the Attorney General to officially call him and his two sons to investigation.
The control tower immediately notified the Civil Aviation Authority and shortly afterwards received an order not to approve any private jet flight heading to Sharm El-Sheikh or out of there until the issuance of further instructions.
